Hello, yes? You probably won\'t get a lot of response to things like status messages here on the site. You might have better luck joining the Discord server (the invite code is under the \"Chat\" link at the top).

Haha, funny you put it that way, since I always thought of myself as \"new guard\" given how many people were around before me. I guess now I\'m an old fruit, seeing as there are many adults now going around calling themselves otherkin who weren\'t born when I was having such crises of \"belongingness\". (I\'m not sure if you and I were still in the same circles when I changed names about 15 years ago - before that I was going by Eshari)

The response to this has been very heartening. As of October 17 we are at 47 surveys returned (!), so we wanted to let everyone know we have decided to go ahead with planning this \"elves, etc.\" event. We have not yet selected firm dates, but are aiming for sometime in January through March 2021. If you volunteered to be an assistant or give a presentation and left us an email address, we expect to be in touch sometime after the survey closes (so don\'t worry that you haven\'t heard from us yet). The survey will remain open through late October, so if you haven\'t answered it already, there is still time to do so and let us know what you would like to see! https://forms.gle/iYADL7bKrpwoZ8z88

They\'re definitely bots. They\'re a perennial problem that tends to run in waves. I\'m not sure why Jarin isn\'t able to get a handle on them. I guess they\'re pretty clever these days in defeating captchas and the \"move the slider and wait until it turns green\" kind of thing that is used for logging in, or maybe there\'s API weaknesses being exploited, or something. If it were me I would make every new account have to be manually approved, but maybe he doesn\'t have the time for that kind of hands-on management.

(hmm, spam comment above. :P )

"Like, do faeries have certain elemental affinities? Though I talk about the earth and nature a lot I find that it’s water and air more specifically that I’m drawn to."

Some do, others do not. It's certainly not a requirement.

"And do faeries really have wings or are they more like projections of energy/aura?"

Good question! In older traditional lore of northwestern Europe, the human-shaped otherworldly peoples (fairy folk, alfar, daoine sidhe) don't have wings (or pointed ears for that matter) - see https://lairbhan.blogspot.com/2017/12/why-do-elves-have-pointed-ears.html for some more on this, and why they may have come in through the practices of Victorian-era theater. But that said, a lot of fae otherkin seem to have them in one form or another. In the winged forms I remember they were at least partly physical but not used for flight, and by the same token they were at least partly nonphysical and more like energy projections; I've used the phrase "a tattoo of light on the air". One of the folks in the SF Bay Otherkin meetup (a pixie, I think) says she thinks of wings as a metaphor for an energy shape.

"How would I be able to tell what mine look like?"

My not-useful answer is that I just kinda know. It's just part of what I think of when I picture myself, the same way I know what color my hair is.

Well, I suppose I don't do it very well tbh. Finding likeminded people seems especially hard these days (insert grump sidhe rant about Ye Aulden Days of the mailing lists ca 2000). Coping, living as I do with a Fox News devotee and generally non-magical environment, tends to amount to contriving to avoid the kitchen when she's in it and hoarding what little Awake-ness I still have left against the future.
