Privacy Policy

Draft v1.0 — July 2026

This policy explains what information Otherkin.net collects, why, and what you can do about it. We've written it in plain language instead of legalese. If anything is unclear, send us a message.

The short version

  • We collect what you give us (like your email and the things you post) plus some basic technical data needed to run the site.

  • We use it to run your account, show your content to the people you choose, and keep the community safe.

  • We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

  • You can see, change, or delete most of your information anytime from your settings.

What we collect

Things you give us

  • Account details — the email address and username you sign up with.

  • Profile content — anything you add to your profile, such as a display name, bio, pronouns, avatar, and identity details.

  • Content you create — posts, comments, images, audio, group and event activity, and similar contributions.

  • Settings — your privacy choices, notification preferences, follows, and blocks.

Things we collect automatically

  • Technical data — your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you visit, kept in server logs.

  • Cookies — small files that keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We use the minimum needed to make the site work; we don't use advertising trackers.

Why we use it

We use your information to:

  • create and run your account;

  • show your profile and content to the audience you choose;

  • keep the community safe — preventing spam and abuse and enforcing our Terms and Guidelines;

  • reply when you contact us for help;

  • understand how the site is used so we can improve it;

  • send you account messages, like verification and security notices.

Who can see your information

  • Other members — only as far as your privacy settings allow. You choose who sees your profile and each thing you post.

  • Our team — moderators and administrators may look at content when they need to handle reports, enforce the rules, or help you.

  • Service providers — trusted companies that help us run the site (for example hosting, email delivery, and media/content delivery). They may only use your information to provide their service to us.

  • When the law requires it — we may share information if we're legally required to, or to protect the safety of our members or the public.

We do not sell your personal information.

Your choices

You can:

  • see and edit most of your information in your settings;

  • control your privacy — choose who can see your profile and posts;

  • download a copy of your content where that option is offered;

  • block members you'd rather not interact with.

Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights — such as access, correction, deletion, or objecting to certain uses. Contact us and we'll do our best to help.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encryption in transit and limits on who can access it. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it to yourself.

Age

Otherkin.net isn't intended for children under 13. If you're younger than that, please don't create an account. If we learn we've collected information from someone under that age, we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the version shown on this page and, where it matters, let you know in the app. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
