It is a wonderful question, and understanding this difference is the secret key to getting the most out of our sanctuary. Let’s break it down into simple terms!

Practice: Doing Magic (Wicca, Paganism, Witchcraft)

When people in the everyday world identify as witches or pagans, they are talking about their actions, spiritual path, or religion.

* The Definition: It is a practice. A human practitioner studies herbs, casts spells, works with tarot, or follows a specific religious path (like Wicca).

* The Identity: At the end of the day, their personal identity remains entirely human. Witchcraft is a beautiful skill they practice, but it is not what they are.

Identity: Being Magic (Magekin, Witchkin, Wizardkin)

For the Otherkin community, being a magic-user is not about what hobbies you practice—it is about who and what you are at your core.

* The Definition: It is an inherent identity. A Magekin feels that their soul, spirit, or psychological makeup is non-human, belonging instead to a magical being (like a folklore wizard, an elemental mage, or a witch from another realm).

* The Identity: For kin, magic is an internal trait. They might experience past-life memories of casting spells, feel "phantom shifts" (like the energy of a staff or a cloak), or feel a deep, non-human disconnect from the modern world.

Can You Be Both?

Absolutely! Many people in our group could be both. They might remember being a powerful mage in a past life (Kin), and they might enjoy reading tarot cards or studying crystals in this current life (Practice).

However, you do not have to practice witchcraft to be welcome here. If you feel like a wizard inside, but you have never cast a spell in your modern life, you are still 100% valid and welcome!
