"Source" & Other Matters

Very recently, one of my two major "source" fictions released a new comic in the franchise. I have the book, but I haven't taken a look at it yet, nor am I in any rush to do so. Honestly, at this stage in my journey, I am more intrigued with whether any sort of "source" fiction contains themes that line up with dreams I've had, synchronicities, events that might have taken place in my life, et cetera.

In my opinion, being "fictionkin" ( I am not fond of this term, but even less fond of its predecessor, "otakukin" shudders) isn't anything special at all. As often as trolls weaponize the word "snowflake," it's always been my opinion that literally anyone is or can be fictionkin. The larger distinction is whether a person is aware of that or not. And also, does that awareness even matter?

My experiences thus far have led me to believe that I do think my perspective here is a somewhat unique one. This and the experience of not really being too fond of my "source" fiction or the fandom(s). There are many fictional stories, franchises and "worlds" I am very much a fan of, but in absolutely none of them do I claim any "fictionkin" association. I do admit that I find having no personal ties to a fiction make it easier to actually like and enjoy it.

Does anyone else share this experience or outlook?

As for the new "source" fiction book, it will continue to sit on my nightstand until I summon up the bandwidth to read it. In the meantime, there are other fictional medias I am actually enjoying, and I'm choosing to spend my energy and focus on those at this time.
