I have an instrument!

What object best represents your current relationship with your otherkin, therian, or nonhuman identity?

I just bought a Greek lyre!!

I got it about a month ago. It is an entry level instrument I found on Etsy, and I've been very slowly learning how to play though online lessons. (My disability prevents me from doing too much each day)

I bought it half on lark because of the lyre's association with the music of the Greek Sirens, but it surprised me how right and natural it feels. There is no magical transference of a skill I had in a previous life; I will have to learn how to play from the beginning and that is ok. I have very little musical training, but this is the first instrument I have tried that felt comfortable to hold and play from the start. Even playing from sheet music feels easier that it had with other instruments I have tried to learn in the past. And the music the lyre makes sounds so beautiful!

Mostly, I just sit with it, make up melodies, and imagine I am on a rocky shoreline or beside a forest spring. I feel like I am slowly connecting to past selves in ways I haven't before. I'm connecting to music again in ways I couldn't since I lost my voice.

No concerts yet! I am just playing for myself — for my Siren self. There is a peace and joy and magic that I am just starting to access that I have not felt in a long time. There are new parts of my Siren self that I am discovering. And it is just so fun to play!
