Day 5

Once again just before I go to bed. Today's prompt is:

What was the first experience that made you wonder whether there might be more to your identity than you had previously realized?

Well, I had a friend who introduced me to lesbians (while we were in elementary school). I didn't know what that was, so I asked and she said it meant gay. I didn't know what gay was either, so I asked again and another friend jumped in and said it meant happy. I said yes and the other girl started laughing. I paid no mind to it until I was asked again in during my sixth or seventh grade year (I was asked at a daycare for before and after school). My friend asked if I've heard of the word lesbian and I said that I thought so. She asked if I knew what it meant and I said that I have been told the definition, but I didn't remember. She explained it to me before the memory from before came flooding back to me and I said, "Oh yeah! Doesn't that mean happy?" and she said, "Yes, technically but that's not what it means in this case." I went home that night and looked up the lgbt community and thought, "Wow, that's kinda cool," for a while. I eventually felt, "Wait is that me?" as I discovered more identities within the community. I already figured I was a weird kid for "acting more like a boy."
