I'm somewhat confused as to the placement and purpose of this category, but I'll try anyway. Help? -Suileach
It's not an infrequent occurrence to find someone in the Otherkin community that claims to feel a resonance of similarity to the elves that J.R.R. Tolkien portrayed in his books.
Tolkien was a very learned scholar and researcher, and he incorporated a fair amount of myth and legend into his stories:
Tolkien based his fictional elves at least partially on the {{Alfar}} of Norse legend (specifically the Liosalfar, though his dwarves were based on the Swartalfar), and the {{Sidhe}} of Celtic legend.
The language used by his elves was also based partially on two real-life languages - Welsh and Finnish.
These things lend an air of credibility and reality to his elves that may lead to people identifying with them.
<<<Some people try and analyze their memories and the best description of the culture, society, etc of thier elven memories is already desribed in Lord Of the Rings. To those who are honestly remembering these things and haven't just seen the movie and wanted to be like the elves (see the section of Kinds of Otherkin: Wannabes) then it is a rather convenient (or embarassing, depending on how you look at it) coincedence. Many people who do find similarities to their elven experiences in Tolkein have to fight off being labeled as Wannabes.<<Violin Goddess>>
