The Sidhe are belived to be the children of the Goddess Danu. Very much a kin to the Tuatha de Danaan who are them or even a different branch of this race. The Sidhe commonly call themselves The Folk.

There home is said to be in the here and now (Mortal World where humans now live) originally.

The Sidhe were said to have had a war with the Children of Mil (Men). In the war they are said to have lost or made a treaty.

Some say the Sidhe saw that there would be too much bloodshed and made a truce with the Children of Mil. Men would have the day and upperland. The Sidhe would have the night and the land beneath this one.

Another says that the Sidhe lost and were driven away into the night so they would not be destroyed.

Anotherway may be between these two beliefs. They fought a war and were losing. This forced them to accept the "truce".

Whatever the situation they went to this "Other land" that has been called Underhill, Elfland, Tir Na Og, and many others various titles.

The Sidhe were spoken of as having two courts. Seelighe and Unseelighe Court. The Seelighe Court were benevolent to Humans. Although there benevolent meddling or help could be made with the best good intentions. They could still have disastorous consequences for the Human in general. The Unseelighe hated Humanity as a whole. They went out of their way to cause mayhem and suffering for their enemy. It caused contention between the two courts.

The Sidhe have been described as generally tall, graceful, pointy ears and slanted eyes. Overall they were very much like the Elves from Lord Of The Rings.

They had strong magical abilities and lived if not forever than for a long time. Although rumor has been they live forever unless slain in war or battle.

They were said to have a weakness to Cold Iron which could kill or injure them seriously. Some say Silver can be used against them while others say it has no affect on them.

Some say they had a queen or king while others say they do not. Yet, they have been described as all of their race being Lords, Ladies, occassionally even Princes and Princess'. This may or may not be acctual.

The Irish still are said to believe in the Sidhe and some take care to honor them and ward themselves from them.

Child-snatching has been associated with them. It is believed that the milk and harvest foods are in their power. If angered they can make cows go dry or milk sour. They can even keep the harvest from being good.
