The "real world" in the otherkin community is often called "here and now" in the kin community. This is a good reminder to some otherkin because there have been times when otherkin have harped on "there" and "then" -- where they've been before, or places other than Earth. Drawing their focus back to quesitons that deal with this time and this place are quite pertinent to a group that often gets lost in memories and longings for being somewhere or somewhen else.

Some otherkin have faulty defense mechanisms and coping mechanisms. Some have a hard time finding jobs that won't drive them batty, or have a hard time finding friends and dealing with social circles. The funny thing is that while kin tend to have a hard time dealing with humanity-at-large, most of their inability to cope with a social life disappears when they're in groups of other kin or open-minded humans in alternative lifestyles, or other misfit groups such as geeks.
