"Elenari" is a word that we came up with this lifetime to as a collective name for a specific set or sets of elvan races that shared similar languages, cultures, histories, and associations.
"Elenari" is normally applied to elvan races from the worlds/realms/places of Sel'ar, Aelveron, and Brightmoon. There are a couple of other places that seem to show some Elenari traits, possibly as a result of some Elenari emigrating to there and interbreeding with the local races. Alorya may be such a place. Some Elenari spent time in Faerie, and Elenari seem to be related to the Shiri, an elf like race which still lives in certain parts of Faerie.
So far, the best known Elenari races/cultures are those from Sel'ar and Aelveron. The best remembered are the Drae'stari, Li'stari, and Tulari. There are two other races which are less well remembered/known, the Kalthilas and Dai'ari.
We don't know a race/culture name for the Elenari of Brightmoon. The Elves of Alorya are listed under Eldari. The Shiri aren't listed yet on this site, but you can find some information on them via the elenari.net site.
Aelveron was a colony that was founded from Sel'ar, and which long survived the fall of Sel'ar. It later developed a significant culture of it's own, with colonies of it's own. The racial mix was largely that of Sel'ar, although more cosmopolitan and mixed.
These are the races of Sel'ar, as I know them.
"Draestari" translates best as "deep people". Early on, they were a deep forest/woodland race with dark skin, and usually either black or silver hair. Eyes were usually dark, although sometimes one would have amber/gold eyes, or violet eyes. In later times, the Drae'stari fled the deep woods and largely went into hiding - some underground, some in the cold lands. The ones who fled into the cold lands were often accepted by some of the Listari, and the resulting intermarriage added some additional skin, eye, and hair color variation. Drae'stari were somewhat rare on Sel'ar in the later years, although not so rare on Aelveron.
Drae'stari built temples and were largely governed by councils lead by the priesthood, but they didn't worship what we would think of as deities. At least in the rural villages, their worship focused on the weaving together of the community, both figuratively and energetically, and on the good of the whole.
"Listari" translates (roughly) as 'people of the snows' or possibly 'people of the light'. They lived in the colder lands, and tended to pale skin, silver or silvery blond hair, and light eyes.
The Listari remained more magically adept than the Drae'stari or Tulari. They seemed to be more in tune with the energy flows of the land, and with the Flow of Reality. They had towns and cities and a structured system of magic.
The Listari had no governmental system, but had a reverential view of one family that was called the First Family. The First Family never made orders or ruled anyone, but they were often called in when things weren't going well, and people in their presence always seemed to find a way to resolve things for the good of all involved.
"Tulari" - I don't have a translation for this one. 'ari' would be something like 'ones of' (stari is something like 'way of ones of', or 'people'). I can't translate 'tu' or 'tu-l'
The Tulari were a fair to ruddy skinned race, and tended towards brown, golden brown, and auburn hair, with true red hair being somewhat rare. Eye color tended to greens, blues, light browns, and hazels.
The Tulari were not as "advanced" as the Listari. On Sel'ar, the Tulari had several villages, but only one town of any size. They had a quasi-formal magical system, and a strong healer tradition.
The Tulari normally didn't have a governmental system. In times of crisis (of which I know of only 2 on Sel'ar), the land and the people would feel the need, and the land itself would claim someone to serve as Enrai, or Of The People.
Enrai's were not kings in the current sense, but rather first speakers and decision makers. Their authority only lasted as long as the crisis, and was not in any way heriditary.
"Dai'ari" may translate as 'ones of night'. Might not, too. I'm not certain on this one.
Dai'ari are described elsewhere on this site. They seem to have been a nocturnal culture that was physically similar to the Listari. Like the Listari, they seem to have retained a better feel for magic over time, and they had significant mental abilities.
The Dai'ari had no governmental structure outside of the village, and even that was a cooperative affair, and didn't have the structure of 'firstman' that many societies here seem to have had.
I don't remember any temples or deity worship among the Dai'ari.
"Kalthilas" - I don't know a translation for this name.
The Kalthilas were a nomadic culture most comfortable in the deep woods/forests. They tended towards tanned skin and brown/auburn hair with brown/green eyes, but that varied a fair amount.
The Kalthilas might be viewed as primitives by some, in that they didn't build cities or work metal, but they had a strong culture, potent if odd magics, and a fierce warlike nature when needed.
There are stories of a single tribe of Kalthilas breaking a concerted Drae'stari attack during the Draestari-Tulari war.
Like picts or bretons from here, Kalthilas went into battle painted blue and keening, and tended not to feel wounds until the battle was over. Kalthilas magics tended more towards The Green, rather than to the earth currents, but they respected the Flow of Reality.
I don't know Kalthilas society well enough to say anything about political structure or spiritual beliefs, other than noting their obvious connection to The Green.
